Social Animals

Humans are social animals
Sliding into groups, clamoring for cliques
In a way, we were inevitable—
A bond foretold by ages of evolution
Mechanisms of survival tying us tight
In a way, we are nothing more than a coincidence—
Same class or neighboring homes
The right people that, bereft of the right time,
May have been nothing at all.
I think we would have found each other regardless.
