Poem
2020-2021
Sunrise, Sunrise, growing light,
Proclaims the closure of the night
Immortal not, thy fire view,
Soon outshone by a canvas blue
In what distant high or low,
Thy will soar with wings aglow
On what vista dare he gaze?
What the life, dare eye thy blaze?
An iridescent and cloudless noon,
Vast as an ocean adjacent the dunes
Will thy survive? Will thy last?
What the shadows thou have cast?
And what heaven, & what dream,
Could twist the sinews of thy gleam?
And when azure conforms to rose,
What the dusk? Thy time has closed
From the sky thy have been disowned,
Descending from thy noble throne
Magnific hues are fading down,
What the haze? Will thou be renown?
What the evening? What the blush,
When were sighs replaced by hush?
What the stardust? What dread moon,
Dare the inferno in which thy swooned!
When the stars drowned out thy art
And infinite space broke thy heart:
Rhinestone skies are clouded with lace
Yet have no wonder, nor thy grace
Sunset, sunset, falling light,
Behind the blanket of the night
Immortal not, thy cupid sky,
Beneath the vista thy shall lie
